Ambassador Lange Schermerhorn

Former US Ambassador to Djibouti | Horn of Africa
Lange Schermerhorn is a retired US diplomat with more than 30 years of experience in economic and political affairs, cross-cultural negotiations, and trade promotion across the Middle East and Europe, with deep expertise in the Red Sea region. She served as US Ambassador to Djibouti (1997–2000), advisor to the Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force–Horn of Africa, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Brussels (1993–1997), following postings in Saigon, Colombo, Tehran, and London. Schermerhorn is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the National War College, with specialized economic training from the Foreign Service Institute. She has written on security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
