Michael Brill
Middle East Political Analyst
Michael Brill is a Ph.D. candidate in Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, where his dissertation examines the political life and legacy of Iraqi Baʿth Party founder Michel ʿAflaq. He is currently a Visiting Scholar in Middle East Studies at Smith College and Visiting Lecturer in Political Science at Westfield State University. In 2024-2025, Michael served as a Global Fellow with the Woodrow Wilson Center’s History and Public Policy Program and a Non-Resident Fellow at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Institute for Future Conflict. He holds an M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a B.A. in History and Political Science from Westfield State, and is an alumnus of the Critical Language Scholarship and Center for Arabic Study Abroad programs. His work has appeared in International Journal of Middle East Studies, Middle East Journal, Foreign Affairs, and War on the Rocks.
